2012 Pennsylvania Wildfire Activity

Wildfire activity in 2012 was characterized by above-normal fire occurrence but below-normal fire size.  A peak of fire activity occurred from April 4th through the 10th. During this period of dry and windy weather numerous red flag warnings were issued and the largest fire of the  year, the Hopewell Fire, burned 741 acres in Berks and Chester Counties. As of September 21st, Bureau of Forestry personnel and volunteer forest fire wardens have reported:

- 641 fires
- 2,840 acres burned
- 191 residences threatened
- 4 residences damages
- 4 residences destroyed
- 87 other structures threatened
- 4 other structures destroyed
- 7 other structures damaged
- 13 injuries
- Zero fatalities

Air Operations Summary for 2012
Since 1960, almost 9 million gallons have been delivered by aircraft on wildfires in Pennsylvania.
Out of State Wildfire Activity

In 2012, Pennsylvania has mobilized 256 personnel to numerous states such as Florida, Michigan, Colorado, New Mexico, Montana, Virginia, Utah, South Dakota, Wyoming, Nevada, Missouri, California, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Oregon, and Idaho.

Mobilizations began in April and include:

- 10 Crews of 20 firefighters each
- 9 Additional firefighters to assist other agencies with filling crews
- 47 Individuals in supervisory and specialty positions.
